LGB Bike Extreme
ONE OF THE ULTIMATE BIKE CHALLENGES IN SOUTHERN FRANCE - TACKLING THE 'GIANT OF PROVENCE' - MONT VENTOUX
This is for the fit and in particular those keen to ride all 3 peaks of Mt Ventoux in 2 (or even) 3 days. This requires total commitment and a high level of bike fitness. Time is spent in the saddle, stopping only when necessary or for group photos, occasional food breaks and lunch. We would expect to cover distances of 80-100kms and climb of the order of 2600 meters daily, a formidable challenge.
This is the extreme long-weekend challenge:
2.5 DAYS BIKING, 2 SPENT EXCLUSIVELY ON MONT VENTOUX AND A HALF DAY RIDING LOCALLY AT LE GRAND BANC.
For those who want to take on the ‘giant of provence’ this is it!
Mont Ventoux needs no intro. ‘Club Les Cingles’ is the climb to the summit by all 3 traditional routes (Bedoin, Malaucene and Sault) all in one day - we allow two.
Les Cingles literally translated means ‘screwball’ or ‘idiot’ and 137 kms and 4300 meters without a break is a formidable challenge.
Availability, May- June, September - October

OUR EXTREME CYCLING TIMELINE
An example of a group ride schedule including logistics and rates
We catch the first flight out of Gatwick and arrive Marseille mid morning followed by a one hour forty minute journey to LGB which has us there in plenty of time for lunch, some downtime and a mid afternoon ride locally of some 40 kms. This gives everyone the chance to get a feel for the area, the roads and their bike. We return to LGB for some early evening boules, yoga, perhaps a swim, dinner at 8.30 and early to bed.
Breakfast at 7.15, group depart LGB by minibus for Sault, a distance of 30 kms or 30 mins. Group stretch, saddle up and ascend the easy route up Mont Ventoux, a distance of 25.7 kms / 1152 meters / 4.5% through gentle rolling landscape of vines, open fields and pine trees. Pause and regroup after 20 kms at Chalet Reynard to wonder at the infamous treeless lunar landscape before pressing on passing by Tommy Simpsons memorial to the summit. Descend at speed from the summit via Chalet Reynard to Bedoin for a light lunch, strong coffee before pressing on through cherry orchards to the secluded entrance of Gorge de La Nesque at Villes-sur-Auzon.
We ascend this wild canyon some 20 kms averaging less that 3% through tunnels of limestone and sensational views to the summit and beyond to Sault where a well earned reception awaits. Minibus back to LGB, or for those with energy to burn an additional 30 kms in the saddle. Drinks/dinner and early to bed.
Breakfast at 7.15, group departs LGB by minibus to Bedoin, a distance of 40 kms or 50 mins. Group stretch, saddle up and ascend following in the foot straps of Messrs Wiggins and Frome up Mont Ventoux, a distance of 21.5 kms / 1612 metres / 7.5% through relentless chicanes via
Chalet Reynard and onto the summit. Pause for some pics and head back down via the north face to Malaucene some 21.2 kms / 1552 metres / 7.2%.
Lunch in Malaucene, rest up before heading back up the north face to the summit again. Lots more pics, self-adulation and group hysteria before heading back down to Sault and salvation. Minibus back to LGB, drinks/dinner and late night celebrations!
Breakfast at 8, depart LGB early to catch mid morning flight from Marseille arriving Gatwick around mid day local time. This gives everyone the option of a half day in the office!

What People Say About LGB
I really find it hard to find anything to criticise! The whole thing was perfectly organised and efficient whilst at the same time the vibe was relaxed, welcoming and full of bonhomie. The Grand Banc is a magical place and the staff (special mention to Dana for catering for all my nutritional demands!). The setting, the views, the rooms, the interiors are all spectacular.
My only complaint is that I wish I'd had more time at the Grand Banc to enjoy it in daylight!
We all really felt like we were your guests which is partly what made the trip so successful. There has been lots of positive feedback already from our group - you and your team nailed it!
We were thoroughly spoilt from start to finish and couldn't have asked for a better trip. you had taken care of everything for us and with your top team of Iain and Rich, as well as Dana, Steve, Romain and, of course the lovely Amandine, it was a complete treat from start to finish.
Thanks again for a completely amazing break
